Address: 120 Chandler Street Room #1L, Worcester, MA 01609 Phone: (508) 791-4373 Fax: (508) 459-5284 The Southeast Asian Coalition is a not-for-profit organization that supports, promotes and advocates for the success of the Southeast Asians of Central Massachusetts in the mainstream society. The Southeast Asian Coalition will pursue its mission by: a.) Providing assistance in the area of educational and job training, economic, as well as emotional, social and cultural support to enable Southeast Asians to successfully mainstream into American society. b.) Linking between the Southeast Asians and the American community. c.) Supporting the cultural heritage of the different Southeast Asian cultures represented in the Greater Worcester community. The Southeast Asians are the Vietnamese, Cambodians, Laotians, and Hmong. Most arrived in the USA since the fall of Indochina to the Communists in 1975. Many are refugees: some came in traditional immigration while others came through circumvented avenues of escape such as the boat people and those who lived in mass encampments, many against their will. The organization has grown in services since its inception in 2001. The Southeast Asian Center, centrally located for the population it serves, opened its doors in Worcester in June 2002. In September of 2002 it became the first Drop-In-Center for the Southeast Asian community in Central Massachusetts. Programs at the Southeast Asian Coalition includes a youth group program known as Youth Effect with over thirty active youth members of all backgrounds and our ESL program which has three different levels with each level having class twice a week.
